Well I really connected with this weeks meditation exercise. I knew exactly whom to envision and it worked really well! I will revisit this exercise for sure. I've been looking around at meditations, mantras work best for me because I am more "involved" in the process. So I have to say that I have been trying to rework things so I feel I can take the time to practice more. I have noticed I am feeling better physically and catch myself smiling and laughing more. I guess I didn't realize how much I needed this.

"One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself" (Schlitz & Amorok, 2005, p. 477). I suppose one could say "practice what you preach" but I look at it more as teach me what you know, share with me what you live. I do feel that in the rehab field I can and will speak from places of experience and yes, the recovery I went through years ago gives me what I consider to be a like mind. It can give, I hope, a sense of kinship and total understanding to a client that I have indeed walked the walk and I can walk with them what may seem to be a very scary path. Now with this added knowledge I can share also what I hope to be a better developed involvement with finding my human flourishing.

  1. Robin exceptional insight and it sounds like a success on the assignment this week. I feel just as you do except for one thing, I think that when he speaks of experience and having been where the person is can mean just the knowledge of the emotions can often be enough to offer ideas and advice. Just knowing what emotions a person is feeling and how to effectively counter them is just as beneficial as if you had suffered the same event.
